About The Author

Tony Evans was born in Liverpool and is currently Football Editor of The Times. Coming from a family of Liverpool fans, he began going the match at an early age. Until the age of 30, Evans spent most of his time watching Liverpool, drinking beer and playing in bands. During the early and mid-1980s, he played trumpet and trombone with The Farm.
In 1990, he embarked on a career in journalism that began in Southern California, where he wrote about cars. His first job in sports was writing High School American football match reports. On returning to Britain, he became Editor of First Down, the gridiron weekly newspaper.

In 1997, Charles Buchan's Football Monthly was relaunched with Evans as Editor and since then he has worked in football. He now lives in London with his wife, Alisa, and seven-year-old daughter, Grace. His interests include drinking beer and spreading scurrilous gossip.
